Driver Skill & Track Access Guidelines

Road Course

  • Caged vehicles only.
  • Cageless cars are permitted only with prior approval.
  • This layout is reserved for experienced drivers demonstrating complete vehicle control and awareness in multi-car environments.
  • Tandem driving is permitted for drivers who consistently hold line, speed, and proximity without causing incidents.
  • Only drivers in caged vehicles are approved to take passengers.

Kart Track

  • Open to all driver skill levels.
  • Tandem driving is allowed, including cageless cars.
  • Drivers must show they can control their vehicle and avoid dangerous behavior.
  • Instructors or staff may restrict tandem participation for anyone displaying reckless driving or lack of control.

Driver Requirements

  • The first thing to do after receiving entry to an event is secure a pit stall. Promptly prepare the vehicle to be track ready before arriving to the inspection area. Please form a line so that we know which car to tech next. The sooner we get you teched, the sooner you hit the track.
  • HELMETS
    • All occupants must wear a safety helmet during on-track sessions. Only helmets certified to meet the following standards are permitted:
    • Snell Memorial Foundation –SA2015,SAH2015, SA2020, SAH2020 SFI Foundation – Spec 31.2, Spec 31.2A
      FIA 8860-2004, 8860-2001
    • Full-faced helmets are recommended, open face are allowed only with eye protection.
Helmet chin straps must be buckled or fastened while on course.
  • It is the driver’s responsibility to ensure that both the driver and passengers keep limbs and body parts inside the vehicle while on a hot track (selfie sticks are OK).
  • If you are involved in an incident or broken down, remain in your vehicle and assume the track is still hot until the safety crew reaches you. The ONLY time you should exit the vehicle on the track is if your vehicle is on fire. Then do so with extreme caution and assume the track is hot until the safety crew reaches you.
  • Please use common sense. Speeding in the pits, coming off of the track at excessive speed or any other unsafe driving off track will not be tolerated.
  • Please be respectful to the facility’s property. Please clean up after yourself in your pit stall. Be mindful of fluids and how they are disposed of. We want to leave a good impression of the Drift Community at the given venue.
  • Only approved containers and portable tanks shall be used for storage and handling of flammable and combustible liquids.  Approved safety cans or Department of Transportation approved containers shall be used for the handling and use of flammable liquids in quantities of 5 gallons or less.
  • A safety can is (29CFR1926.155(1) an approved, closed container, of not more than 5 gallons capacity, having a flash arresting screen, spring closing lid and spout cover and so designed that it will safely relieve internal pressure when subjected to fire exposure.
  • Stay safe. Only use approved gas cans.
  • Age requirement for passengers is 13 years or older. No tandem (cage or no cage) with passengers 13-17 years of age. Cage required for tandem with passengers 18+.

Vehicle Requirements

  • Chassis
    • Loose Items
      • All loose items must be removed from the car’s interior (before tech inspection), including the engine bay and under the car. Please secure any loose items that could become hazardous to you, spectators, or other drivers.
    • Convertibles and roadsters
      • Must have a motorsport-approved roll bar; no style bars are permitted. Vehicles are not allowed to run without doors. Cars under repair or projects must have structural rigidity around the entire car (e.g., large sections missing, leaving the car vulnerable in a crash). It is encouraged to run all body panels. Body panels (within reason) may be secured with zip ties, duct tape, etc.
    • Seats
      • Your seat(s) must be stable and properly secured in the car.
      • Seat belts and Harnesses: All seats that hold drivers or passengers must have functioning 3-point belts or at least a 3-point harness.
    • Cages
      • Cages are required for multi-car tandems involving more than 2 cars. A minimum six-point roll cage with door bars is required. Cages should be constructed with proper engineered design and welding principles in mind. If you plan on running Pro-Am events, check your Pro-Am series rulebook. Our cage rules are not nearly as strict, but we will check for cracks, poorly gapped joints, bad welds, etc. Drivers are ultimately responsible for the construction and safety of the car. *These rules can change at the discretion of the staff. If we see a non-cage driver with great car control, they may be permitted to run in a multi-car tandem of more than 3 cars. A caged driver can be restricted from a multi-car tandem group if they exhibit poor control, causing an unsafe situation.
    • Fire Extinguishers
      • Fire extinguishers are required for all tandem drivers (caged and non-caged). They are not required for single runs but are highly recommended. Fire extinguishers must be securely mounted to the interior of the car.
  • Batteries/Wiring/Lighting
    • Battery Tie Downs
      • You must have battery tie-downs. Factory or aftermarket tie-downs must be in place and functional wherever your battery is placed. They should be strong enough to keep the battery from tipping or spilling (even if you have a leak-proof or solid cell). Flying free of its respective housing and leaking is always dangerous, causing injury or damage.
    • Positive Battery Terminal
      • Your positive battery terminal must be covered with an OEM or better battery terminal cover.
    • Wiring
      • The wiring must be free of foot or hand controls, and wires carrying voltage must be covered by non-conductive material.
    • Tail Lights & Brake Lights
      • Tail and brake lights must work as intended (especially for tandem).
    • Windshields
      • Windshields must be installed with OEM glass or OEM replacement material and free of cracks. Non-glass, Lexan/polycarbonate replacement windshields must be securely mounted with a minimum thickness of .1875-inch, a vertical brace made of .0625-inch aluminum, and a .750-inch wide brace securely mounted down the center of the opening inside the vehicle.
  • Engine
    • Your car must be free of all excessive fluid leaks: radiator, engine oil, trans/diff, power steering, and brakes (the S-Chassis power steering and brake fluid reservoirs must be covered to prevent overflow from heat saturation).
    • Full exhaust is not required for most events but is highly recommended. *This rule can change depending on the venue restrictions.
  • Suspension/Steering/Brakes
    • Suspension
      • Ball joints, tie rods, and all other suspension components must be in good condition and free of damage or excessive play. Trucks must have modifications to prevent excessive suspension travel and body roll.
    • Steering
      • The steering wheel, hub, shaft, and rack must be free of excessive play or binding.
    • Brakes
      • The brake pedal must have firm pressure with low fade and brake shows. The pads and rotors must perform as intended with minimal wear and no damage.
    • Lug Nuts
      • All lug nuts must be in place and tight. Please be sure you are running the appropriate lug for your wheel and stud.
